COOLING SYSTEMS | Study of the mechanical performance of the main shaft in viscous clutches

May 4, 2025

One of the most important parts of a cooling viscous clutch is the main shaft. The rest of parts are assembled upon this component, which is in charge of transferring the movement of the engine to the clutch and bearing its weight. For that reason, the main shaft is the component more prone to mechanical failures or breaks.

Thanks to the full range of main shafts present in the product catalogue of Cojali, our Cooling System Design Department carry out several simulations on these shafts. These simulations allow the study of the mechanical performance of the main shafts under different operating conditions.

A static simulation can determine the maximum stress and displacement values. On the other hand, a fatigue failure study shows the useful life of the main shaft. Both tests greatly facilitate the identification of the most critical geometries, which require special attention during the designing process. Besides, they allow us to know the operating safety level of these components.

A proper numerical simulation of the main shafts helps us to offer our clients a high safety level of the clutch during its operation.
